Cannabis in Canada is legal for both recreational and medicinal purposes. The medicinal use of cannabis was legalized nationwide on July 31, 2001.
On October 17th, 2018 the recreational use of cannabis was legalized by the federal government via the federal Cannabis Act making Canada the second country in the world, after Uruguay, to legalize the cultivation, possession, acquisition and consumption of cannabis and its by-products.
