The original breeder in South Africa who sourced the seeded Congo Black only obtained a handful of seeds from the imported buds, packaged in a “Bankie”. He reported that it was very exotic. He thought most likely a “Bhangi” Congo or “red” variety. The Black Congolese male is from the seed stock as which was used to pollinate the Congo Pointe Noire cut.
The female was pollinated by a Pure Black Congolese male. The female exhibits more of the Pure Black Congolese expressions and tend to grow quite small and compact with smaller tighter floral clusters with less branching compared to some South African Sativas. The female is Congo Pointe Noire x Black Congolese, the black Congolese was sourced from the same person in South Africa and the Congo Pointe Noire cut which has been lost now, so I’ve heard.

The Republic of Congo was formally called Zaire. The Black Congolese comes from Democratic Republic of Congo. Some red traits will come out in the phenotypes, red stems and petioles, plus various color ranges are possible.
