Shapeshifter, the breeding director at Hi-Elevation Genetics, has been conducting serious experimentation with cannabis genetics for well over 40 years due to an innate interest and profound curiosity about the workings of mother earth. Useful plants in particular, captured a large part of that interest. His personal scientific study of cannabis is deep and complex, revolutionary, and evolutionary, entailing decades of time, trial and error, and millions of observations. In recent years, Shapeshifter, through working with cannabis mutations has become the creator of a gene line/cannabis strains known as “Freakshow”, and is currently diverting his energy toward the refinement and perfection of this amazing mutant.
Having worked with an archive of cultivars that dates back decades, combined with some carefully selected newer types acquired over the years, as well as having eliminated about 95% of everything ever looked at, he has now bottle-necked his collection into something very useful! He has decided to share/release most of his entire, diverse, but limited current seed bank, except what’s needed to preserve genetics. There are way too many cultivars to list (100+). Over the years this bank/collection has been shared with breeders, growers and tokers, always with overwhelming, positive feedback. (Extractors dig it too!) This whole project was done breeding in outdoor, arid, high-elevation, high UV conditions at a south facing side of a major canyon, as well as at a warmer and more southern latitude; all which seem to have caused epigenetic shifts including increased cannabinoid and terpene production, pest resistance, and overall tenacity. Organic cultivation techniques, soil science, etc. aside, the parent stock was always happy, healthy, and a little stressed. Fairly extensive lab testing in the last 6 years only confirmed what was already expected, THC consistently running anywhere from 21-28% on everything in the bank, and terps are high as well.
