Description
Cucurbita pepo ‘Dill’s Atlantic Giant‘
Pumpkins are vining plants that can quickly spread far in a garden. Seeds can be started indoors 2-3 weeks before the last frost date in your area, or can be direct-sown outdoors after the last frost date and when soil temperatures reach 60 F. Being a tender-annual warm-season vegetable, ‘Dills Atlantic Giant’ Pumpkins will thrive in full sun and fast-draining, fertile soils. They require at least 120 days of temperatures 60 degrees or warmer to produce huge orange fruit for display in the fall. 50- 200 lb pumpkins are commonly grown, but when given plenty of space (70 sq. ft. or more per plant) and limiting each long-vined plant to one pumpkin one can grow a pumpkin weighing 300-400+ lbs! However, the current world record for a ‘Dills Atlantic Giant’ Pumpkin is over 2,000 lbs!
